Dear Members, as all will be aware, there is ongoing work on the Main Course in the construction of Golf Cart paths which will continue over the next months. The paths are being installed to improve access to the course in periods of wet weather and also to reduce damage to the course in areas of concentrated golf cart usage. The medium term aim of the project is to have at least 9 holes on course fully pathed as we progress over time to complete all holes which are adversely impacted when we get substantial rain.
Obviously, on days where works are being undertaken, the hole from a golfing perspective is altered (shortened) for the safety of the contractors and to protect damage to newly constructed paths for a day or 2. We have received feed back from a number of members who have been concerned as to the impact on handicap arising from the alterations to the hole (eg. path 4’s playing as par 3 on th day) etc. and asking if the hole ‘par’ and course index could be changed on each of the competition days held when an alteration to a hole is in place. This is a substantial amount of work which is probably unwarranted for a day or 2 impact on each hole where works are undertaken.
After considering this issue and the impact on handicap, particularly for alterations to the length of the hole, going forward, for member competition when altered holes are in place, these competitions will be deemed ‘non handicap’ events so a players score on that day will not be submitted for handicap consideration and therefore will have no impact on the players handicap.
Any player who does wish to have their score submitted for handicap purposes when an altered hole/s is in place, should see a staff member in the Golf Shop to have their score on the day submitted manually.
On such days, competition play and prize allocation will be as per normal.
