Dear Members, 

We write to advise of the passing of VGC Life Member Jack Rayner, who died peacefully yesterday on the Sunshine Coast after an illness. Jack was 95. 

Jack joined VGC in 1947 and was awarded VGC Life Membership status in 1955. Jack was an outstanding Amateur Golfer winning his 1st VGC Club Championship in 1948, followed by a long list of State Amateur golf events culminating in his success in 1955 in winning the Australian Amateur Championship. At that time, Jack was the 1st Queensland player to with the Championship.

Jack was also a stalwart in Virginia Pennants teams over the years, being a member of 9 successful VGC 1st division Pennants teams over the period from 1955 to 1987. The Club is very proud to display some Jack’s memorabilia in the Champions Room at the Club. 

A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at White Lady Funerals, 270 Kelvin Grove Rd, Kelvin Grove at 10.00 am next Friday, 6th February, followed by a gathering at VGC from 12 noon. All members, most particularly those who had an association with Jack are most welcome to attend.  RIP Jack.
