Dear Members,

At the last Annual General Meeting in November 2024, the incoming Board was asked by members to look at  potential methods of providing more cart sheds on the course for storage of member ‘privately owned’ golf carts.

The Club’s Board have reviewed this matter over the previous few months to determine the feasibility of this proposal.

There has been significant work undertaken to fully understand the issues and costs in potentially building additional cart storage. After looking at all options it was decided the best scenario was to consider the feasibility of building more sheds behind the16th green and via an extension to the present shed. This proposal provided for two buildings, being 10 extra sheds at end of present building and 20 standalone storage units between existing sheds and the 16th green. A total of 30 extra sheds was the scenario assessed by the Board after advice from builders quoting on the sheds.

The quote to build the additional storage was approximately $170K including contingency costs with some works excluded such as earth works, electrical etc. to be completed by the Club.

The Board then looked at several funding models for the construction – Club funded out of savings, prospective cart shed members lessees fund the construction and a combination of both of these options. The Board also looked at the potential impact on Club revenues from loss of club owned golf cart hire from members on cart waitlist who would no longer need to hire carts.

After due consideration of all the factors at hand, the Club’s Board has determined that the return on investment for the outlay to build additional storage sheds just did not add up for the Club at the moment (for the benefit of up to 30 members).

At this time, it was decided that any outlay of Club funds for the construction of more cart storage sheds would not be in the best interest of the majority of VGC members as it would reduce available cash for future course & club improvement works.
