Dear Members, as you will be aware, the Club has scheduled a General meeting for tomorrow, 15th October 2020 at VGC.

This meeting was to consider a proposal to amend the Club’s constitution to remove tenure restrictions on the specified Board positions of President (4 years) and Captain (3 years). This meeting was called in response to a written request being received from in excess of 5% of eligible members requesting that this proposal to amend the constitution be considered.

Members who were unable to attend the scheduled meeting on 15th October have been strongly encouraged to submit a proxy vote to ensure their interests were considered in any decision in relation to the proposed change in the Club’s constitution.

After a review of the 180+ proxy votes received, whilst support for the proposed change in the constitution is strong and more than 2 to 1 in favour of votes against the change, with the current Covid restrictions limiting attendance to 75 people at the meeting, it would appear improbable that the required 75% in favour threshold can be achieved for the change in the constitution to be enacted.

To this end, the Club has determined that the matter has been resolved and that the proposed change cannot be supported by the necessary 75% of eligible voting members.

To avoid unnecessary inconvenience to members in having to attend the meeting given the support for the proposal cannot be achieved to the 75% threshold required, the proposed meeting has been cancelled.

We apologise for the late notice of this cancellation and any inconvenience which may result.

Tony Bourke
