In 2009, Virginia introduced a major competition to attract the best golfers in South East Queensland. It provides an opportunity to promote the Club and to help development of our State’s top players. In recognition of the achievements of one of the Club's greatest members, it is known as the Wayne Grady Cup. Wayne was the Club Champion in 1976 and 1977 and his career defining victory came in the 1990 U.S. PGA Championship. The Cup is contested over 36 holes of stroke play and the player with the lowest gross score is the champion. All scores count towards the Angus Buchanan Trophy - an event run by Golf Queensland which determines the state's best amateur golfer in a calendar year. A full list of winners is as follows:
