Saturday, 18 April 2009 |
With the winter months upon us, the number of timesheet spots on a Saturday will be reduced slightly due to a lack of light. The first tee time will gradually move from 6am to 6:30am and the last tee time will move from 12:48pm to 12:30pm. The worst month is June - where we have roughly 40 less spots than during the summer months.
We'd like to remind all members that if you are unable to get a game when the timesheet is released, please call the office to place your name on the waiting list. The office staff will find a spot for you as vacancies arise. If you are on the waiting list, you will almost certainly get a game. Not a single person missed out during the 2008 winter.
Similarly, if you do have your name down on the timesheet, we ask that you let the office know as soon as possible if you are unable to play. This helps us clear the waiting list and find a game for all members. Thanks for your help! |

Scott Arnold Wins 2009 Australian Amateur - Virginia Gets Thumbs Up! |
|
Wednesday, 25 March 2009 |

 |
The 2009 Australian Amateur Championship has been won by Scott Arnold from New South Wales. He defeated Victorian Daniel Beckmann 3&1 in the 36 hole match play final at Royal Queensland. Bryden MacPherson from Victoria won the Australian Stroke Play Championship in a sudden death play-off over Jin Jeong from Korea. Both finished on 7 under par.
The players were extremely complimentary about Virginia Golf Club (which co-hosted the first two rounds) and credit must go to the greens staff for all their hard work. Those members who came out to watch the play were treated to some high quality golf. In the first round, everyone was talking about the length of New Zealand amateur Ryan Fox. He hit an 8 iron second shot into the 1st... with no wind assistance! The shot of the Championship undoubtedly came from Gailes member Daniel McGraw who holed a 5-iron for an albatross on the 13th.
For those who missed it, a few photos from the week can be found by clicking here. All the scores can be viewed on the Golf Australia website by clicking here.

Thanks to everyone who came down to the Club on March 13 to support the Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave. Members Andrew O'Callaghan and Brian Adams (pictued above both before and after) shaved their heads for a good cause. With the help of Mike Doxey, our "auctioneer extraordinaire", we raised close to $3,000 for the Foundation. If you're still looking to contribute, donations can either made by clicking on the following link and searching for "Virginia Golf Club". |

Summer Cup 2nd Round – Postponed To Mar 14 |
|
Saturday, 14 February 2009 |
| The course received over 60mm of rain on Thursday night and the inclement weather has continued ever since. Given the state of the course (extremely wet), the decision has been made to postpone the second round of the Summer Cup until Saturday, March 14. Let’s hope we have better weather on that date. |
