Terry Price Wins Followmont Transport Shoot-Out
Sunday, 13 September 2009
Terry Price With Chris Hunter

Terry Price has taken out the 2009 Followmont Transport Virginia Golf Club Shoot-Out.  In front of a sizeable gallery, Terry played steady golf over the closing holes and held off his younger opponents.  He took home the $3,500 first prize and broke Peter Senior's streak of three consecutive wins.

The runner-up was Chris Downes - who almost produced the perfect turnaround after being the first player eliminated in last year's event.  Senior player Mike Ferguson rounded out the placegetters with a strong showing.

2009 Club Champs: A Big Finish Awaits...
Saturday, 12 September 2009
Steve SinclairJustin Cooke

There are just 18 holes left in the 2009 Club Championships.  The third round proved to be the toughest so far with only 10 lucky souls shooting better than their handicap.

The Open Championship looks like being a two horse race with Steve Sinclair and Ben Fletcher tied on 217 (4 over).  Both players shot 72 in the third round.  Ben started with a string of birdies and was 4 under after 10 holes but found trouble coming home.  Steve struggled from tee to green but his great short game kept him in the hunt.

Six shots behind in third place on 223 (10 over) are Alex Wall, Bob Watson and Matt Toomey.  Alex shot the low score of the day with a 71 and has opened up a 9 shot lead in the Junior Championship.  Bob's third round 73 sees him 5 shots clear in the race for the Senior Championship.

Steve, Ben, Alex and Bob (pictured above) will play the final round together this Saturday (Sep 19) in a special seeded group at 12:28pm.  It will be very interesting to watch this quartet in action!  Matt Toomey will not be playing this weekend as he's off to Melbourne to manage the Queensland Colts team in the 2009 Inter-State Series.

Jim Quidim leads Mark Fulton by just one shot in the B Grade Championship and there are 5 more players within 6 shots of the lead.  It should be a close finish.  Michael Bolger has snuck clear in the C Grade Championship and leads by 4 shots from Merv Free.

Half Way Home In The 2009 Club Champs
Saturday, 05 September 2009
Chris HunterAlex Wall

It was a wet and windy start to the second round of the 2009 Club Championships.  The rain eased mid-morning but the breeze hung around for most of the day.  Of the 240 players in the field, just 12 were able to break their handicap.

Ben Fletcher and Steve Sinclair are tied for the lead in the Open Club Championship.  Both found the going tougher in round 2 but they're on top with a score of 145.  Leading the chasing pack are Jordan Daley and Matt Toomey on 148.  They each shot a 72 in the second round -the low score of the day.

The Junior Championship looks like going down to the wire with Alex Wall on 152 and Don McLauchlan on 153.  Alex fired a 74 on day 2 to seize the advantage.

The Senior Championship will be a three horse race with Bob Watson on 150, Neal Bishop on 153 and Steve Watkinson on 154.  This talented trio headed up our Senior Pennant team earlier in the year and it'll be an intriguing battle to see who wins this honour board event for the first time.

The Veterans Championship (played over the first two rounds only) was taken out by the ageless Herbie Grunow with a score of 161.  Herbie won by 3 shots from Ken McLean.

The third round is played this Saturday and you can view all the scores by clicking on the links below:

Players were presented with difficult conditions in round 1 of the 2009 Club Championships.  The wind gusts were as strong as 35 km/hr at some parts in the afternoon.

Ben Fletcher leads the way after an opening round of 70 - the only sub par round for the day.  Hot on his heels is former champion Steve Sinclair (71) and Justin Cooke (72), who had the best score of the afternoon field.  Ricky Siddle (73) is tied for 4th after a back nine 32 which included 5 birdies.

The Junior Championship will be a two horse race between the in-form Don McLauchlan and the always steady Alex Wall.  Don earned the points in the first round of this bout with 74 to Alex's 78.

The Senior Championship (being played over 4 rounds for the first time this year) sees 8 players within 5 shots of the lead.  Steve Watkinson is the front runner after an opening 74 but leading the chasing pack is Bob Watson with a 76.
